ABOUT THE ARTIST

Inspired by the works of Kelvin Okafor in 2008, I developed my art with focus on realism and intricate detail. Initially a portrait charcoal artist my works have progressed to a more intuitive and emotional realism using the simplicity of white charcoal on black paper.

Since 2020 I work in mostly oil but also use the following mediums: charcoal, pen & ink,  & acrylics.

My recent direction involves my observations of degradation in our civilization: neglected buildings, graffiti, and the gritty and untidy corners of our towns and cities. They explore my fascination with these relationships and the passage of time through which decay leaves residues from the past. I am interested in the potential synchronicity of graffiti and nature whereby the natural growth of plants, labelled ‘weeds’ and ‘overgrown’, and graffiti, an inherent desire to create, become ‘illegal’ and ‘degenerate vandalism’. Combined with natural abstraction and alternative compositions I strive to question the conforms of aesthetics.
